Visitor Guidelines

Hagia Sophia is an active place of worship. Please follow these guidelines to ensure a respectful and enjoyable visit for everyone.

Dress Code

Modest dress is required. Women should cover their heads, shoulders, and knees. Men should wear long pants. Free headscarves and wraps are available at the entrance.

Shoes

Shoes must be removed before entering the prayer area. Plastic bags are provided to carry your shoes. Shoe racks are available near the entrance.

Photography

Photography is permitted except during prayer times and in designated areas. Flash photography and tripods are not allowed. Be respectful of worshippers.

Behavior

Please maintain a respectful demeanor. Keep voices low, silence mobile phones, and avoid walking in front of people who are praying.

Accessibility

Wheelchair access is available through the main entrance. The ground floor is fully accessible. Upper galleries have limited accessibility due to historical stairs.

Security

All visitors pass through security screening. Large bags and luggage are not permitted inside. Photography equipment may require additional screening.
